Matherne and McElligott Join Uptown PR’s 2013 Spring Internship Program

New Orleans (January 16, 2013) Uptown PR, a public relations and marketing firm based in New Orleans, is pleased to welcome its most recent additions Crista Matherne and Allison McElligott.  Matherne and McElligott were accepted into the firm’s Spring Internship Program last month.

Their duties as client service associates include drafting press materials, creating and maintaining media relations and conducting research on the newest public relations tools. Matherne and McElligott will also be responsible for promoting client and agency events along with updating social media sites for a large array of clients.

Matherne, a native of the greater New Orleans metropolitan area and graduate of Louisiana State University, is delighted to be a part of the public relations industry in New Orleans.   Prior to interning at Uptown PR, Matherne assisted several organizations with implementing and executing public relations campaigns.  The New Orleans City Council, Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, the National World War II Museum and the LSU Museum of Art have featured her writing and design work.

As a former account associate in the New Orleans market, Crista brings with her previous experience in media, client and community relations.  She is an active member of PRSA and volunteers her time with the Alzheimer’s Association New Orleans chapter.

McElligott, a native of Lafayette, is a sophomore at Loyola University New Orleans where she is majoring in mass communication, concentrating in public relations with a minor in Spanish.  She is a member of Delta Gamma sorority, PRSSA and writes for the university’s student-run newspaper The Maroon. McElligott plans on traveling to Buenos Aires with Loyola’s study abroad program this fall.

Prior to joining Uptown PR, Allison worked with The Russo Group, a branding agency in Lafayette.  She brings with her experience in research, blogging, event planning and branding critique.

“Our Spring Internship Program is a great way for young talent from around the Southeast to get a feel for the public relations industry,” said Genevieve Douglass, founder and executive director of Uptown PR. “It gives them an opportunity to learn what they like and don’t like about the field they are studying and allows them to have a better perspective for their career path before they graduate.”
