Feigenbaum and McDowell Join Uptown PR’s 2013 Summer Internship Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Orleans (June 18, 2013) Uptown PR, a public relations and marketing firm based in New Orleans, is excited to announce their newest additions, Alex Feigenbaum and Kate McDowell, who will be working as Client Service Associates for the firm this summer.

Their duties as client service associates include drafting press materials, creating and maintaining media relations and conducting research on the newest public relations tools. Feigenbaum and McDowell will also be responsible for client and agency event promotion along with updating and managing social media sites for a large array of clients.

Feigenbaum, a native of the Boston metrowest area and student of Tulane University, is delighted to be a part of the public relations industry in New Orleans.  Prior to interning at Uptown PR, Feigenbaum worked as a shift supervisor in the restaurant industry. She has also worked in retail and as a receptionist at a law firm, both in her hometown of Boston, Mass. 

Feigenbaum brings her enthusiasm and business experience to the firm this summer.  At Tulane she is an active member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority and is a member of Phi Eta Sigma honors fraternity and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. 

A native of Richmond, Va., McDowell will be a senior this coming fall at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.  A candidate for a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Economics, she is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, the Investment Club and works as a teaching assistant in the economics department.  She is delighted to be working in the public relations industry in New Orleans this summer.


McDowell recently returned from a spring semester abroad in Sydney, Australia, where she worked with the international marketing and sales services firm, Crossmark ANZ.  She brings with her experience in research, marketing and branding to Uptown PR.

“Our Summer Internship Program is a great way for young talent from around the country to get a feel for the public relations industry in New Orleans,” said Genevieve Douglass, founder and executive director of Uptown PR. “It gives students with different majors and fields of study an opportunity to gain experience in the PR industry and allows them to have better insight for their career path before they graduate.”

Matherne and McElligott Join Uptown PR’s 2013 Spring Internship Program


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Orleans (January 16, 2013) Uptown PR, a public relations and marketing firm based in New Orleans, is pleased to welcome its most recent additions Crista Matherne and Allison McElligott.  Matherne and McElligott were accepted into the firm’s Spring Internship Program last month.

Their duties as client service associates include drafting press materials, creating and maintaining media relations and conducting research on the newest public relations tools. Matherne and McElligott will also be responsible for promoting client and agency events along with updating social media sites for a large array of clients.

Matherne, a native of the greater New Orleans metropolitan area and graduate of Louisiana State University, is delighted to be a part of the public relations industry in New Orleans.   Prior to interning at Uptown PR, Matherne assisted several organizations with implementing and executing public relations campaigns.  The New Orleans City Council, Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, the National World War II Museum and the LSU Museum of Art have featured her writing and design work. 

As a former account associate in the New Orleans market, Crista brings with her previous experience in media, client and community relations.  She is an active member of PRSA and volunteers her time with the Alzheimer’s Association New Orleans chapter. 

McElligott, a native of Lafayette, is a sophomore at Loyola University New Orleans where she is majoring in mass communication, concentrating in public relations with a minor in Spanish.  She is a member of Delta Gamma sorority, PRSSA and writes for the university’s student-run newspaper The Maroon. McElligott plans on traveling to Buenos Aires with Loyola’s study abroad program this fall. 

Prior to joining Uptown PR, Allison worked with The Russo Group, a branding agency in Lafayette.  She brings with her experience in research, blogging, event planning and branding critique.

Fall Internship Opportunity



Internship Program

Core Strengths

Public relations representatives write, edit, make public appearances and speak on behalf of an agency. Interns will be expected to have strong written and oral communications, adhere to deadlines and be thorough. Good organizational skills a must.

Media Relations

Depending on the workload assigned to an intern, media interaction may be necessary but can be as simple as making phone calls for details on a community undertaking, sending invitations to events, securing press attendance or answering questions on in-house projects. Interns will be expected to contact media to request press kits and complete media lists.

Events

Novices may be expected to attend events on behalf of the organization by accompanying a manager or marketing liaison.

Marketing & Social Media

Interns may help with pitching new concepts for media coverage angles. Public awareness is essential to brand development and is a key PR strategy. Bringing innovative social media ideas/tools is a plus.

Public Appearances

Looking the part by being presentable and well prepared is a requirement for apprentices looking to move ahead.

Administrative Tasks

Internships may require a level of routine administrative tasks, including organizing meetings, handling phone calls, e-mail communication, Internet research and even errand running.


Please note: This is not a paid internship. Students that apply should be looking to receive course credit or to fulfill their major requirement.
